HouseSigma — the highest-rated real estate app in Canada — is growing fast, and we’re hiring a Staff Engineer to help us build the next generation of consumer real-estate products powered by AI. This is a full-time, permanent role with the flexibility to work from anywhere in Canada.
About the role
As a Staff Engineer, you’ll be a senior individual contributor who codes daily, leads by example on engineering quality, and ships impactful features across our web, mobile, and data platforms. You’ll partner closely with Product, Design, Ops, and ML to align solutions with business goals while raising the technical bar for the whole team.
What you’ll do
– Lead delivery of data pipeline end-to-end — spanning upstream acquisition, batch ETL/ELT, and production/real-time data flows (events, streaming, operational stores).
– Own delivery of complex features — from proposal and design to implementation, rollout, and iteration; collaborate on larger multi-team initiatives.
– Set and uphold engineering standards for readability, maintainability, testing, performance, and reliability through thoughtful design docs and code reviews.
– Tackle high-leverage technical problems (e.g. system performance, scalability, tech debt) and implement pragmatic solutions that speed up team velocity.
– Improve the codebase continuously: identify refactor opportunities across services and components; champion observability and automation.
– Fix prioritized production issues with high judgment on risk, severity, and user impact.
– Mentor and unblock engineers across teams building on the data platform; share knowledge via pairing, reviews, and docs; help with technical interviewing when needed.
– Partner cross-functionally with Product, Operations, and ML on roadmaps and trade-offs to ensure we build the right thing, the right way.
What we’re looking for
– 5+ years of professional software experience, including significant ownership of systems from concept → production.
– Deep proficiency in at least one modern backend or full-stack ecosystem (e.g. TypeScript/Node.js, Python, Java/Kotlin, Go) and comfort picking up new stacks.
– Demonstrated strength in performance, scalability, and optimization (profiling, caching, data modeling, concurrency).
– Facility with testing, CI/CD, and observability; you ship high-quality code in an agile, iterative environment.
– Clear, concise communication; ability to align stakeholders and provide crisp status updates.
– Self-directed, highly organized, and effective in a remote-first setup.
Nice to have
– Experience with consumer-facing apps/web, search/ranking/ML integration, or data-heavy systems.
– Familiarity with modern frontend frameworks (React/Vue/Angular) and mobile app delivery pipelines.

Base salary range: $150k to $200k CAD per year (final offer will be determined based on skills and experience)
